HOSPITAL RATIONS
Men, Not Women, Should Apply. Men, and not women, should appear as applicants when the North Canterbury Hospital Board gives its first delivery of relief rations at 9 a.m. on Friday, according to the secretary of the board (Mr W. S. Wharton). He stated to-day that the man, as head of the family, was responsible for making provision for his wife and children, and the board had in the past insisted that as far as possible it should be the men who made application. The men should bring the departmental cards with them when making application. Unemployment Board’s Investigation. Mr J. S. Jessep, deputy-chairman of the Unemployment Board, is expected to arrive in Christchurch to-morrow morning to inquire into the system adopted by the Labour Department in issuing ration relief tickets in the city. The officer-in-charge of the Labour Department in Christchurch (Mr R. T. Bailey) will probably leave for Wellington at the end of the week to confer with the acting-Minister of Employment (the Hon A. Hamilton).
