PROPOSED NEW ROAD
Inspection of Site Made at Papanui.
Messrs R. W. Hawke, M.P., and IT. Holland, M.P., met a deputation from the Papanui Progress League on Saturday afternoon to consider means of getting a street formed to connect Railway Street and the Papanui station with Langdon’s Road, where the new technical college is to be built. Those comprising the deputation were:—• Messrs W. J. Boyce, A. Uren, J. Sturrock, W. G. Chapman, G. T. Baker, T. A. Gates, H. Hookham and F. Cone. The suggested site was inspected, and it was pointed out to the members that only about two chains of property would need to be secured to join up with an existing blind street, at present unnamed. There would be the need to approach the Justice Department for part of the police station site, and also the question of ownership of further land.
It was decided to ask the Progress League to go into the question of land titles, and Messrs Hawke and Holland promised to bring the question of the police station land before the Minister of Justice.
