Semi-Finals of English j Cup. THISTLE BEAT NOMADS. English Cup semi-finals were played at English Park to-day, on a rain-soak-ed ground. The greater experience of the Western men and the heavy going were too much for the light Technical Old Boj's B eleven in the early game. Western dominated play to' win 4-0. The first half of the Thistle-Nomads clash was fought at a ding-dong pace, but faded after the interval. Thistle taking controk and winning easily, 6-1. NOMADS V. THISTLE. .The ground was well churned when Thistle HHd Nomads took the field for the second match. Thistle scored after three minutes Bruce netting following a corner.’ Thistle 1, Nomads 0. Nomads soon equalised, Pickup starting a splendid movement that Smith capped with an unstoppable close-in shot. Thistle 1, Nomads 1. Then a cross from Baton drew M’Rae and Bruce headed in. i hi.st.le 2, Nomads I—three goals in ten minutes. A brace of corners to -Nomads were cleared and Thistle attacked. M’Rae handled safely from Bruce and D. Sutherland. Save for two brief Nomads’ rallies,, play was dominated by Thistle. Trotter was left handy in a Thistle raid, but M’Rae cleared well. Nomads were defending at the interval, with the score: Thistle 2, Nomads 1. Thistle’s lead was increased earlv, Trotter scoring from a penalty. Thistle tera°mnv S ’t oni ‘\ rts 'y ere shaping betel. Again Thistle took up the running and for a spell the.'- had Nomads Well penned up. A G. Walker-Bruce-Trotter passing bout ended in Trotter netting with a fast grounder. Thistle 5, Nomads 1. In temporary Nomads’ rallies Sharr and Latimer speculated unsuccessfully. Just before the end D. Sutherland added another, making the final score: THISTLE 6 NOMADS i Referee: Mr E. li. Crake. TECHKICAL B v. WESTERN. The game opened in brisk fashion, though play was soon slowed by the slippery ground and tlvs heavy ball. Western attacked, but Bissett was safe to a long drive from Whittington. Then Technical set up a raid. Technical again broke through, but W. Kelly was there to set the Blacks on attack, once more. Again the Technical goal was under fire. Western missed several easy goals before G. Roberts secured and sent on to E. Colville, who shot from close in. Bissett gathered Hie ball, but from the rebound W. Whittington scored. Western 1, Technical B 0. Whittington next headed from wldvj out. Bissett lost his foothold and let the hall into the net. Western 2, Technical B 0. In the second spell, Western attacked early, and W. Whittington was on the spot to head in a cross from F. Bridgens. Western 3,«Technical B 0. Technical retaliated, and Were • twice unlucky to miss scoring.. They lost another good opportunity when G. Colville fumbled a clearancee. Tn the effort to smother him the ball went wide. Western Avet’e now holding the advantage. but their shots at goal were fruitless until A. M’Millan increased the score with a sharp drive from a centre by F. Bridgens.
