Labourer Charged with Theft of Fowls. MISSING LEGHORNS. When Joseph William Groom, a labourer, aged 28, of St Asaph Street, appeared in the Police Court this morning on a charge of stealing ten White Leghorns, valued at £1 15s, he was remanded until August 4 by’ Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M. Chief-Detective Carroll said that Groom's house was searched yesterday and in a cupboard were found ten live fowls. Seven of the birds had been identified. “ Were there any eggs? ” asked the Magistrate. “ Yes, there were two,” said the chief detective. “ I had them for breakfast.” added Groom from the dock. Counsel made a request for bail, stating that the accused was well known. “ That’s it. He is too well known,” said the chief detective. Bail was allowed in the sum of £SO and one surety of £SO.
