ATTRACTIVE TOURS.
Preparations by Railway Department.
Fine weather conditions appear to be likely at Arthur’s Pass for winter sports to-morrow and it is anticipated that a full capacity train will be necessary to convey excursionists. Light snow fell on Thursday and the conditions for ski-ing have improved since last Sunday. The arrangements made on previous Sundays for the return excursion train to stop at the Bealey quarry huts will be repeated. Thirty-five trampers joined the train at the huts last Sunday and many enthusiastic continents were made regarding the very fine walk from the Pass. All who participated availed themselves of the hot soup provided. A number of fires were lighted at the huts, which consist of four rooms and outhouses. The trampers were thus able to consume their soup and at the same time enjoy the comfort of warm, cheery accommodation. A railway officer will again accompany trampers to-morrow.
The immediate prospects for outdoor enthusiasts are very attractive. The Arthur's Pass excursion train will be run for several weeks yet and a trampers’ train will run to Motukarara on Sunday, August 7, leaving Christchurch at 8.10 a.m. The Technical College I ramping Club have arranged a tramp on that date and the usual tramps from Motukarara will be available.
A moonlight excursion has been arranged for Wednesday, August 10, by the train leaving Christchurch at 4.45 p.m. A “ mystery ” tramp is being arranged for Sunday, August 14.
