Bowls and Business. “It is unfortunate that this meeting clashes with another important meeting—the bowlers are holding their annual meeting just across the way,” said Mr W. Simm at the annual meeting of the Karori Progressive Association. “Of course, you know there is only one thing to do when business clashes with bowls—give up business,” he added amid laughter. Sugar Prices Increased. An increase of 9d a 701 b bag of sugar will be passed on to the public at the end of next week. This has been caused by the increase in the price of raw and refined sugar of £1 a ton, which came into force yesterday. A Christchurch grocer said that the increase in the wholesale price was inevitable, as sugar had been selling up to the present at practically cost price, and when the small stocks now available had been used up, the price must go up. Sugar tablets, icing sugar, syrup, treacle and other similar commodities will not be affected. Cooking Lessons for Boys. The suggestion was approved and referred to the principal of the school ■ for his consideration. '
