“ We should congratulate the department on having wakened up after twenty years,” declared Mr T. W. West at the meeting of the Technical College Board of Governors last night. His remark followed on a recommendation by the Buildings Committee that guards be placed over the machines in the workshops as required by the Inspector of Machinery, and that the Education Department be asked to make a grant for that work. In reply to Mr West, the principal (Dr D. E. Hansen) stated that the machinery had been exposed to the same extent for the last twenty years. There was no more danger now than during those years, and the college was fortunate in having had so few accidents. There might not be an accident for years, but on the other hand there might be«one the next day. Mr West: Then we should pass a motion congratulating the department on the responsibility attaching to this. They have taken twenty years to wake up to this danger. A member: Better leave it alone, or the department will find out something else. No action was taken.
