MRS WILLS-MOODY WINS WOMEN’S SINGLES TITLE.

Miss Jacobs Is Worn Out by Opponent’s Masterly Placements. (United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received. July 2, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 1. Mrs Helen Wills-Moody won the women’s singles championship at Wimbledon to-day, defeating Miss Helen Jacobs. Both entered the final without the loss of a set —a tribute to the superiority of American women s tennis. In the final match Miss Jacobs served strongly and chopped and sliced accurately, but was worn out by Mrs Moody’s masterly placements and was soon vanquished. Mrs Moody thus took her fifth Wimbledon title as compared with Mile. Lenglen’s six singles titles.

Borotra and Brugnon defeated Allison and Van Ryn in the doubles semifinals. The Americans were erratic. Brugnon’s artistry delighted the crowd. Results:— Women’s Singles Championship. (Final.) Mrs Helen Wills-Moody (U.S.A.) beat Miss Helen Jacobs (U.S.A.), 6-3, 6-1.

Men’s Doubles Championship. (Semi-finals.) Borotra and Brugnon (France) defeated Allison and Van Ryn (U.S.A.), 6-3, 6-2, 6-4. Mixed Doubles. Maier (Spain) and Miss Ryan (U.S.A.) beat Cochet (France) and Mrs Whittingstall, 7-6, 3-6, 6-1.
