RANGIORA SHOW

Awards in Championship Sections. Exhibits at the North Canterbury Poultry. Pigeon and Canary Club’s annual show, which opened at Rangiora yesterday, showed no signs of falling off in quality. As usual the utility poultry section received most support and it was here that competition was the strongest. In the women’s section the entries were slightly less numerous than at the last show, but the quality of the needlework in particular was fully maintained. A pleasing feature was the strong support given to the girls cookery classes. An interesting display of pupils’ handwork and products of the school farm was made by the Rangiora High School. This attracted a good deal of favourable comment.

The challenge cup for the best bird in the show was won by a splendid white Plymouth Rock pullet exhibited by Mr C. Craig. Besides the Plymouth Rock championship, this pullet also annexed the T. Loveday Memorial Cup for the best bird in the open classes. The W. T. Wilson Memorial Cup, allotted this year to the pigeon section, was won by G. IT. Bradford.

Championships allotted by the South Island Poultry, Pigeon and Canary Association were won as follows: White Plymouth Rock, open class—M. O. Craig. Utility Rhode Island Red— R. T. Downs—Utility duck—S. Beau-

champ. Modern Game bantams, blackred—F. J. Stephens. Nun or Jacobin pigeon—G. 11. Bradford. Pouter or cropper pigeon—J. Glenie. Yorkshire selfgreen or foul-green canary, n.c.f.—J. A.

This year the arrangements were carried out under the supervision of Mr E. Wheeler as president and Mr A. E. Hawkins as secretary. There was a good attendance of fanciers and others throughout the afternoon and evening.
