WINDS UP OTAGO SEASON.

Oamaru Jockey Club has Only Meeting- in

Dominion To-morrow.

RUN THROUGH RECENT FORM

For Otago racing, the 1931-32 season will close to-morrow with the winter meeting of the Oamaru Jockey Club. This fixture has the distinction of being the only race meeting in New Zealand on the day, an uncommon occurrence on a Saturday. A number of Riccar-ton-trained horses hold engagements.

The obstacles in this event will be only brushed hurdles, a fact which does not make it appear any easier as a problem. Calham won the steeplechase at Otautau on May 21 and the Otago Steeplechase at Wingatui on May 28. He is reported to have poisoned a leg in the latter race and was not produced at Ashburton last Saturday. Rameses, with 9.5, won the Levels Hurdle at Washdyke on May 28 from Antrim Boy, 11.8. At Wingatui on June 1 he was third over hurdles to Morena and Royal Limond, with Antrim Boy fourth, while on June 4 at the same course he was unplaced. Lancer has been schooling well over the Riccarton fences. Night Attire, Fresh Breeze, Peterette and Marco Polo fell in the Steeplechase at Ashburton last Saturday. Oriflamb and Graball got round but were never dangerous while Adgi Baba tailed the field until he was pulled up. Royal Land finished last in the Pukaki Hurdles at Washdyke on June 18. Trooper North became involved in the mix-up in the hurdle race at Ashburton last Saturday and lost his rider. Antrim Boy and Rameses should go well, with Lancer also possessing good prospects if he makes the trip. 12.60 p.m. NOVICE STAKES, of SO sovs; five furlongs (weight Bst) —Gold Dress, Ossiman, Porlock, Topthorn, Congo, Dutch Princess, Shamfight, Rose Dart, Heigh Ho, Flaxbird, Palantua, Worship. Royal Estate, Adult. Gold Dress was unplaced in two two-year-old races at Trentham in October. Ossiman was unplaced over six furlongs at Wingatui on June 4. Porlock was third in a five furlong novice at Oamaru on April 9, while Topthorn filled a similar position in a five furlong Trial at Ashburton on May 21. Congo has not started since running unplaced in a six furlong hack event at Washdyke in October. Shamfight was unplaced in the Oamaru Novice on April 9. Heigh Ho and Rose Dart were unplaced in mile races at Wingatui last month. Flaxbird made no show in the Moreton Hack last Saturday. Palantua was second to Gold Paper over five furlongs at Wingatui on December 28. Worship has not started since running unplaced in the M’Lean Stakes on October 10 and Royal Estate not since running unplaced over six furlongs at the Otago Hunt meeting in September. Adult was fourth over six furlongs at Ashburton on May 21 and was unplaced in the Kingsdown Hack at Washdyke a week later. Topthorn should prove difficult to beat, while Palantua and Gold Dress arc also speedy. 1.25 p.m. OAMARU TROT HANDICAP, of 100 sovs. Class 3.45. One mile and a half.

Of the ten acceptors for the mile and a half event all but Almont Cling, Chenwood and last Saturday's winner. Cloudy Range, are on the limit. Guyziah should benefit by his racing last week, and although Lena Thorpe has raced prominently once or twice Sunbrown may beat her off the same mark. Chenwood may be beaten by Cloudy Range as the racing is improving the two-year-old. Little Claire looks like coming on and may do better than previously. Cloudy Range, despite his penalty, looks hardest to beat, with Lena Thorpe and Little Claire next best. 2.5 p.m. GRANGE HANDICAP, of 150 sovs. One Mount Boa 9 8 Taboo S 5 Royal Saxon 8 11 Some Toft 8 5 Inevitable S 11 Ravine 8 5 Red Racer 8 9 A 1 Jolson 8 2 Water Power 8 9 Weatherlv S 0 Du n raven 8 6 First Raid 8 0 Salmo Salar S 5 Pakitei’e 8 0 Rascal 8 5

Mount Boa finished fourth in the six furlong Seadown Handicap at Wash dyke on June 18. In the Prince Edward Handicap at the same fixture, Ravine was second to Colonel Cygnus, Water Power being fourth, Taboo sixth and Red Racer last. At Ashburton last Saturday, Water Power, with 8.5, won the seven furlong Maronan Handicap with Dunraven, 8.9, third. A 1 Jolson 8.6, was fourth, Rascal 8.9 sixth, Ravine 8.9 seventh, with Inevitable 9.1, Royal Saxon 8.13 and Pakitere 8.0 further back. Royal Saxon had run second in the hurdle race earlier in the day. Weatherly was third over a mile at Ashburton on May 21. He met with interference when unplaced at Washdyke on May 28. First Raid was unplaced in the Seadown Handicap, six furlongs, at Washdyke on June 18. Salmo Salar was second to Red Racer and third to Fast Passage and Rational 11. in mile and a quarter races at Wingatui on June 1 and 3. Some Toff has no recent form. Weatherly mav find Mount Boa and Water Power hardest to beat. 2.45 p.m.

Ballance was second to Colonel Cygnus over a mile at Wingatui on June 1 and third over six furlongs there on June 4. First Song started twice at Washdyke on June 18 and on the second occasion was third in the Temuka Flack, one mile and 35 yards. Craigavon was second, Academy sixth, Appeal seventh and both Silver Salver and Pharaoh further back in the mile and a quarter hack event at Ashburton last Saturday. Bitractor was thrice unplaced at the Dunedin meeting early last month. Fligh Speed fell in the hurdle race at Washdyke on April 23 and- was unplaced in the Kingsdown Hack on the same course on May 28. Dressy, at Riverton in March, was second at level weights to First Song in a seven furlong Trial, second with 9.0 to Ballance, 9.8, over a mile and a quarter, and won a six furlong Novice. He was unplaced over a mile and a quarter at Wingatui on June 4. Ruatui at Riverton in March was third to First Song and Thornton over seven furlongs and unplaced over a mile. Craigavon appeals most with Ballance next.

There are eleven acceptors for the mile and a quarter and it should be a good contest. Te Kinga is smart over the distance and Tat Wrack can also muster up a good deal of speed although she has not done much racing this season. With a good beginning Chenwood may race better than over a mile and a half. Hard Words has been doing well in his training and looks like racing prominently. Stella Bingen was well backed at Oamaru but' she failed to go away right, and Black Jester has speed. Wild Guy is an improving young pacer of whom the best has not yet been seen. Lena Thorpe’s chance seems to be best in the mile and a half event. The final placings may be Hard Words, Te Kinga and Chenwood. 4.5 p.m. FAREWELL HANDICAP, of 90 sovs.

Merry Peel 8 10 Red Royal won over six furlongs at Ashburton on May 21 with 10.1 from Some Good, 9.4. He was unplaced over a mile and 35 yards at Washdyke a week later. First Song has been referred to previously. At Washdyke on June 18, Lord Buchan with 8.6 won the Southburn Handicap, six furlongs, from Metal Bird, 8.13. Some Good was fifth and Brown Pearl was also unplaced. At Ashburton last Saturday, Lord Buchan was third in the Moreton Hack, six furlongs, Merry Peel being fifth, Belvoir sixth, with Metal Bird, Plot Tea, lan’s March and Flaxbird also unplaced. A calm day would probably help Lord Buchan and Belvoir and the latter should be the better for the race, which was his first since August. Belvoir may find Merry Peel and Some Good his most formidable opponents.
