Gatherings Held in Town and Country.

COMING-OF-AGE DANCE. An evening was held recently in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Upper Riccarton, to celebrate the twenty-first birthday of Myrtle, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. S. Weir, Maxwell Street. The hall was effectively decorated with mauve, blue, lemon and pink streamers. Ashby’s band supplied the music and extras were played by Mrs F. C. Vaughan. Mr W. T. Weir was M.C. Recitations were given by Master Jack Murie and comic songs by Mr Phil O’Rourke. The lucky spot fox-trot was won by Miss Ellen Newell and Mr W. Davison. Monte Carlo dances were won by Miss Margaret Keeper and Mr Phil O’Rourke and Miss Kathleen Glubb and Mr R. S. Weir. The guest of the evening wore a simple frock of pink floral taffeta, with fully-flared, ankle-length skirt and high waistline finished with a bow at the back in bustle effect. Mrs J. S. Weir, who received the guests, wore a becoming frock of blue crepe de chine, relieved with cream lace. The health of the guest of honour was proposed by Mr R. Murie and Mr J. O’Reilly. Kitchen Evening. On Tuesday evening a surprise party! visited “ Lucernevale,” Greenpark, the home of Miss Ina Stalker, to tender her a kitchen evening in honour of her approaching marriage. A happy evening was spent in games and competitions, the winners being Mrs L. R. Dulieu, Mrs Acheson, Mr L. R. Dulieu and Mr A. Mitchell. Vocal solos were contributed by Mrs Dulieu and Mrs Acheson and humorous monologues by the Rev A. H. Acheson, Mrs Pearson being the accompaniste. Speaking on behalf of those present, Mr Acheson expressed their best wishes for Miss Stalker’s future happiness and asked her to accept the gifts for her new home. Mr H. Woods responded. Those present were: Mr and Mrs J. Stalker, Mr and Mrs Woods, Rev and Mrs A. H. Acheson, Mr and Mrs J. H. Thomas, Mr and Mrs L. R. Dulieu, Mr and Mrs G. Pearson, Mr and Mrs H. Pearson. Mr and Mrs J. Coin Afternoon. A coin afternoon, organised by the committee, Mesdames Campbell Brown, Coutts, Montgomery, M’Clatchy and Shermach, was held'to assist the funds of St James* Free Kindergarten, Riccarton. Miss Hull, principal of the Free Kindergarten Association, addressed the mothers, stressing the aims of the movement, and appealed to all to assist Miss Montgomery, the teacher, in her work. Mrs Montgomery thanked Miss Hull and all present for their help. The vicar, the Rev R. de Lambert, also spoke. He expressed the hope that all would understand the importance of the work. Songs were given by Miss M’Lennan and a recitation by Mr Campbell Brown. Afternoon tea was served. Bride-oleet Honoured. At a delightful luncheon partv in Beath’s reception room, Miss Margery Myers, who is to be married shortly, received a number of dainty gifts. The hostess was Miss Jessie Dickson. Others present were: Misses C. Gundersen, R. Myers, B. Pollard, G. Griffin, J. Cutts, M. Cannon, K. Mathews, J. Hughes and C. Harris.
