Sincere regret at the impending departure from Christchurch of Adjutant Coombes, Samaritan officer of the Salvation Army, was expressed by the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) today. He said that Adjutant Coombes had been a wonderful help to him in dealing with cases of distress, and had co-operated to the fullest extent. “It would not be possible.” he added, “ for me to speak too highly of the noble work she has rendered to the poor and distressed people of this city, and her departure for Dunedin is a very great loss to us."
