Semple) j that he had it on the best authority! [that the Government contemplates! i raising the unemployment tax from Is j to Is 9d in the £ was briefly comI men ted on by the Prime Minister today. Mr Forbes denied that the Governi ment had given any consideration to the question of increasing the wage tax, and added that, though it might j yet be necessary to increase the unem- \ ployment funds, nothing could be done ! before Parliament met. The position would then be considered, according to ; the state of the funds at the disposal of the Unemployment Board.
