INCOME TAX.

Method of Spreading - Payments. (Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, June 29. It was announced by the Prime Minister to-day that arrangements were now completed for the sale of income tax certificates by Money Order Offices under provision made in the Finance Act last session, enabling income tax payers to spread their payments of income tax instead of paying a lump sum on the due date. Section 53 of the Finance Act, 1932, enables any taxpayer to make payments in advance on account of income tax and to receive interest on multiples of £1 for complete months at such a rate and up to the end of such a month as may be determined by the Minister of Finance. Mr Forbes states that interest is being allowed for complete months up to the end of January at the rate of 32 per cent by way of discount. Forms are now being distributed to Money Order Offices throughout the Dominion, and certificates will be on sale at most places to-morrow, and at all places on July 1.
