INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES.
Date for Local Hearings Not Fixed. No definite dates have been fixed for the hearing of local industrial disputes under the amendments made to the Industrial, Conciliation and Arbitration Act, and it is considered in trade union circles that the first of the cases referred from conciliation under the old Act for consideration under the new regulations cannot come on before early in August. The reason for this is that the Conciliation Commissioner (Mr P. Hallv) has much to engage his attention at the moment in other parts of the Dominion, and cannot possibly get through the list of disputes much before a month at least. The position, of course, might be relieved by the Minister of Labour (the Hon A. Hamilton) appointing additional temporary commissioners. The secretary of the Metal Workers’ Assistants’ and Electricians’ Unions (Mr G. T. Thurston) stated this morning that he had not been advised as to the date Avhen the tAvo disputes would be heard. Both disputes had been referred back to conciliation.
