LEADING SWIMMER DEAD.
Competed in Breaststroke Championships. (Special to the "Star.”) AUCKLAND, June 29. j Swimming in Auckland has suffered j a severe loss in the death of Mr ! Thomas Samuel Lowe, who succumbed j to an attack of pneumonia last night, at the age of twentj r -three. He had been one ol the leading > breaststroke exponents of the Dominion ! lor the past five years, but his interest i in sport went further than the com- j petjtive side. His ardent enthusiasm and administrative ability made him one of the leading figures in Auckland swimming circles, and since taking over the position of secretary of the North Shore Club two years ago he had been one of the mainstays of the sport. At the Auckland championships in 1926 he was runner-up in the 100 yards intermediate breaststroke event, and he won the title in the following year. For the next five years he was runnerup in the 220 yards chafinpionship, and at the New Zealand Championship meeting held in Auckland in 1927 he finished second to Cameron in the intermediate breaststroke event.
