1923 ALL BLACK DEAD.
Dr R. G. B. Sinclair, a Fine Full-back. (Special to the “Star.") AUCKLAND, June 28. A Hawera message notifies the death at Wellington yesterday of Dr R. G. B. Sinclair, a member of the 1923 All Blacks, after an operation following appendicitis. He had been ill for several months. Dr R. G. B. Sinclair was well known as a footballer, particularly in the year 1923. He made a name for himself as a brilliant full-back for the Otago Varsity A team and in the same season was chosen as full-back for the South Island when they played North at Wellington. Sinclair’s defence and line-kicking were features of the match. The score was a draw, 3-all. It is worth noting that Jack Steel, captain, M. L. Page and Brian M’Cleary were also in the South team that year. Sinclair won his All Black cap in the same year and played twice in tests for New Zealand against the touring New South Wales team, once at Dunedin and the second time at Lancaster Park, Christchurch. In the Lancaster Park test, Sinclair excelled himself, converting five tries and kicking a penalty. His rival at the other end was Dr O. E. Nothling, and both were cheered repeatedly for their fine play.
