“ LADIES OF THE JURY.”
Majestic Shows New Type of Comedy. This week the Majestic Theatre is screening “ Ladies of the Jury,” KKO-Radio Pictures’ latest comedy, starring the inimitable Edna May Oliver. The inside intrigues of a jury room are revealed for the first: time in this production, whose star, Edna May Oliver, was recently seen here in “ Fanny Foley Herself.” “ Ladies of the Jury ” is a riot of 1 laughs and pokes the merry finger of satire at the mixed jury system, which « expects twelve men and women of extremely opposite types to reach a verdict. ] For sheer fun this picture, directed by the well-known actor-director, Lowell < Sherman, is in a class of its own. Ex- 1 cellently constructed and superbly presented, it starts with a laugh and builds to a crescendo of hilarious situations and broadly comic moods at the end. Edna May Oliver is cast in the role of a determined, crafty social leader who is empanelled on a jury of plumbers, cooks, mechanics and flappers. * She alone votes for an acquittal, and , by devious schemes, promises and a - few lies converts the jury against its • Wilier The star, long one of the most noted l stage comediennes on Broadway, gives « a performance that should establish * her as one of the leading comediennes of the screen. She combines the subtlety of satire and the broadness of comedy with a flair for pathos. < The remainder of the cast is equally well chosen. Ken Murray, the vaudeville and radio star, plays a loquacious type of juror: Jill Esmond, the British stage star, is the defendant.
