GALES, RAIN, HAIL.
Telephone Poles Twisted by Lightning. STORMS SWEEP VICTORIA. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. (Received June 27, 11.30 a.m.) MELBOURE, June 27. Violent storms with high gales, rain and hail occurred in Gippsland over the week-end and there were many landslides in the hills, trees were blown down and one road was blocked in eleven places with a mile of iron telephone standards, which were struck by lightning and bent like the letter S. At Leongatha heavy continuous rains caused creeks and rivers to overflow their banks and many miles of flats were submerged. The floods are the highest since 1902. All shipping is delayed and two colliers from Sydney have been forced to shelter.
