PILGRIMS GATHER.

Social Afternoon at Old Art Gallery. QUARTERLY REUNION. The quarterly gatherings of the Canterbury Pilgrims’ Association are always welcomed by the large number of members as being some of the most pleasurable afternoons held during the year. These pioneers welcome the opportunity of meeting and conversing with one another on their experiences in the early days. On Saturday afternoon the quarterly meeting was held in the old Art Gallery, when a delightful programme was arranged for the entertainment of the members and their friends. The cold weather was not encouraging to those who had some distance to travel to the city from their own fireside?, but despite this there was a splendid attendance of about 200. Mr E. R. Webb, president of the association, -welcomed those present. He referred to the effect of the financial difficulties of the times, which, it was regretted, had made it impossible to hold the proposed gala gathering at the end of this year. In conclusion Mr Webb thanked the performers for their entertainment, the ladies’ committee for their -work in preparing and serving afternoon tea, and also those ladies who had brought refreshments. During the afternoon, at the request of the president, the earliest arrivals in Canterbury were asked to stand up, while those present sang “ For They Are Jolly Good Fellows.” They were Sir Arthur Dudley Dobson (ship Sir George Seymour), Mr A. R. Pavitt (ship Monarch, which arrived at Akaroa early in 1850), Mr E. W. Harper (ship Randolph), Mrs E. Booth (ship Cressy, 1850), and Mrs Coxhead (nee Mouldey), who was born on the Cressy during the voyage. The following items were given during the afternoon:—Songs, Miss Sylvia Marshall, Mr E. M.
