Some Misused Words.
are book collectors who are fond
of “ Grangerising ” their favourite books, and thereby adding very much to their value. To “ Grangerise,” or " extra illustrate,” a book is to embellish it with portraits mentioned in the text, to add engravings of plaees to which there is reference, and to insert all sorts of newspaper or magazine cuttings on the subject of the book. A Grangerised Bible, in forty-five volumes folio, contained 6000 prints, and was valued at 3000 guineas. Another collector Grangerised Macaulay’s “ History of England " by the addition of over 5000 portraits and battle scenes. It was worth £7OOO. Extra illustrating is a fascinating hobby. The hobby is named after James Grainger, who was a famous booklover. He died, vicar of Shipleke, Oxfordshire, in 1776. TOUCHSTONE.
