Papanui School. The Papanui School Committee held an enjoyable concert at the Memorial Hall on Wednesday evening. The Joy Germs Company contributed the programme, and Mr W. Sandford presided. Items were given by Messrs D. M’Gill, Jock Lockhart, Frank Moran, George Titchener, Charles and Tom Lawrence, Misses Grace Nixon, Wyn Bell and Joan and Nola Lawrence. Northcote Association. A successful card evening was held by the Advance Northcote Association at the Social Hall on Tuesday. The winners were Mrs J. Sharkey and Mr J. Lange. It was reported that a football had been sent by the Canterbury Football Association for the use of the boys’ club, and Mr Fielding was acting as coach. St Paul’s, Papanui. A largely attended meeting for the purpose of forming a Ladies’ Guild to further social and benevolent work in j St Paul’s parish. Papanui, was presided; over by Mrs Orbell. The following officers s and committees were set up: President, Mrs Orbell: secretary, Mrs Carl; treasurer, Mrs Caverhill; general committee, Mesdames Brown, Greenslade, Moncreif and Hosking; social committee, Mesdames Moncreif, Caverhill, Tomkies, M Cullough, Tod, llosking and Greenslade. On Tuesday, St Paul’s Senior Bible Class members entertained a number of friends at the schoolroom. Anniversary Services. The anniversary of the Papanui Methodist Church was celebrated last Sunday. The morning service was taken by the Rev M. A. Rugby Pratt, the afternoon by the Rev W. Rowe, and the evening by the Rev A. Hopper. Special music was rendered by the choir, under Mr Queree, and solos were given by Mrs J. W. Palk and Mr D. Law. On Wednesday the celebrations were continued with a concert, the programme for which was as follows: Piccolo solo, Mr Dobbie; tenor solo, Mr D. Law; recitation, Miss Mavis Ritchie; soprano solo, Miss Olive Jenkins; instrumental trios, Mrs Law, Messrs Dobbie and Pickup; sketches, the Rover Crew; and part song by the choir. Mrs D. Law was accompanist. Mr R. W. Hawke, M.P., thanked the performers. $$ New Methodist Church. Arrangements in connection with the opening of the new Linwood Methodist Church at the corner of Cashel Street and Ollivier’s Road are now complete. Mrs W. J. Dower, one ot the oldest members of the congregation, will perform the opening ceremony. A service will follow in the church, when the Rev M. A. Rugby* Pratt, president of the Methodist Conference, will give the dedication address. The Rev F. Greenwood will be the chairman, and others assisting in the service will be the Revs E. Drake and S. Bailey and Mr J. Voss (vicepresident of the Methodist Conference) and Mr G. W. Fx-ancis. LieutenantColonel S. C. P. Nicholls will unveil the soldiers’ memorial window. Holy Trinity Church, Avonsid.s. Next Sunday, Trinity Sunday, the parish of Avonside will enter upon the week’s celebi*ations of its seventy-fifth anniversary. A Procession of Witness will leave the church at 10.30 a.m. and traverse Stanmore Road, Armagh Street, St James Street and River Road back to the church. The choir will sing a number of hymns on the way. The following is the erder of procession:—The present choir, ex-choristers, clergy, churchwardens. vestrymen. Mothers* Union, Girls’ Friendly Society, Men’s Club, Girls’ Clubs, Boys’ Clubs, Bible Classes, Sunday Schools, Tennis Club, Band of Hope and members of the congregation.
