MINISTERIAL. The lIoiP A. Hamilton, PostmasterGeneral, passed through Christchurch last evening on . his way from Invercargill to Wellington. Messrs E. G. Essex (Dunedin), and M. R. Maitland (Hawke’s Bay) are guests at the Royal Hotel. Mr 11. T. Armstrong. M.P., will leave Christchurch either to-morrow or on Monday for a tour of the Hawke’s Bay district. His first address will be given in Waipawa on Tuesday evening. A motion of sympathy with the Minister of Education, the Hon R. Masters, in the death of his father, was carried at to-day’s meeting of the Canterbury Education Board. Mr S. R. Evison, a member of the Canterbury Education Board, was congratulated at to-day’s meeting of the board on his election as president of the Canterbury School Committees’ Association. Sympathy with Mr J. G. Gow, a member of the Canterbury Education Board, in his present illness and hopes for his speedy recovery, were expressed at today’s meeting of the board. At the weekly rehearsal of the Christchurch Orchestral Society, a motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr A. P. de la Cour who, for many years, was a much respected member of the orchestra. Mr R. W. Marshall, Christchurch district manager of the Government Tourist Department, leaves on Monday for the south on annual leave. Mr A. S. Stone will relieve Mr Marshall in his absence. Superintendent C. C. Warner, of the Christchurch Fire Brigade, returned to Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning. He was accompanied by Captain T. J. Watt, inspector of volunteer fire brigades. Mr Maurice Cohen left Wellington for San Francisco on Tuesday, and he will be absent from the Dominion for six or seven months. Mr Cohen has been authorised to represent the Wellington Harbour Board at a conference of port authorities to be held in Los Angeles at the end of July. Twice previously he has represented Wellington at conferences in the United States. Mr Colin M’lntosh was re-elected to the position of president of the North Canterbury district branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union at the annual conference, held yesterday. Mr M’lntosh wished to resign the post this year, but altered his intention, in view of the unanimous request of the conference that he do so. At a meeting of the Board of Governors of the New Zealand Institute at Wellington yesterday, it was announced that tne recipient of the Hector Medal would be Dr Peter Buck (Te Rangi Iliroa). Messrs G. E. Archey (Auckland) and Rigg (Nelson) were elected fellows. Mr F. Chapman, oi Melbourne Museum, was elected an honorary member.
