Mangin appeared on seven charges of’ failing to account to Brown’s Highbury Laundry, Ltd., for sums of money collected on the firm’s behalf, thereby committing theft. The total amount involved was £2 Is. The accused pleaded guilty. Chief-Detective Carroll said that Mangin canvassed for orders and also had Authority to collect accounts. After collecting the money he had failed to pay it in. Council for Mangin said that he had lived a respectable life. Although laxity in business was no excuse for theft, there had been a certain laxity that had made the thefts easy. Arrangements had been made to refund the money. The chief-detective said that money had been advanced to Mangin by the office on 1.0.U.’5, but that had nothing to do with the thefts. Mr Mosley said that this could not be described as laxity. He was ordered to refund the amount of money stolen.
