RATES FOR DRAINAGE.
Levy £766 Less than Last Year. A sum of £30,581 is expected to be raised by the Drainage Board through the coming year’s rates, which in some areas show an increase compared with last year, when the total amount raised was £31,347. The amount this year is £766 less than in the previous year. A rate of Hd in the £1 has been fixed to provide the requirements of the loans for the outer sewer area. This rate, which is a reduction of 5-64 d in the £1 on last year’s, will be collected only in the special area in which the board is laying sewers or has already laid sewers, and in the remainder of the special area a rate of Hd in the £1 will be charged, as against 27-64 d in the £1 last year, a decrease of 3-64 d in the £l. The increases are in Rural Christchurch, Spreydon, Avon and Heathcote, and the reductions are in the sewerage area, Woolston and New Brighton. The rate for Riccarton remains the same.
