RUGBY UNION.

Management Committee Meets INTER-ISLAND GAME. The Management Committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union met last evening; present: Messrs A. E. M’Phail (chairman), R. W. Britton, R. R. Masters, J. K. Moloney, V. L. Jensen, W. C. Dailey, A. Thompson, M. Leadbetter, W. Maxwell. A. Duggan, L. F. Thompson, S. Hollander, H. E. Davis, E. V. Phillips and T. Milliken. The New Zealand Union wrote with reference to the rule that teams should not leave the field at half-time. It was apparently the habit of some unions to waive that ruling. As the conference had decided that leaving the field should be governed by the English law, such waiving of the rule was unlawful. Mr Hollander: It is a very small point. The chairman said that it was the rule that teams should not leave the field without the permission of the referee. “Shall we carry on as we are? asked Mr Hollander. “ I believe the rules hav© been amended recently, and that the regulations relating to half-time have been altered.” . “ Carry on as we are,” said the chairNcrth v. South. The New Zealand Union advised that the best players would be picked for the North Island v. South Island match, irrespective of whether or no they would be available for the Australian tour. At the same time, it would be necessary for players not available to be specified, for the information of the New Zealand selectors. The New Zealand Union wrote advising that the charges for the North Island v. South Island match should be Is to the ground and 2s plus tax to the enclosure, those being the charges for ordinary representative fixtures. It was decided to suggest to the Ashburton Union that a match Canterbury B v. Ashburton be played at Christchurch on July 23. The Sydenham Club wrote protesting against club competition matches being played on June 3. It was decided to notify Sydenham that it was inconvenient to alter the fixture list. The Otago Union wrote confirming September 17 as the date for the Payne Trophy match at Dunedin. On the recommendation of the Match Committee it was decided to remove the Boys’ High School second fifteen from the fifth grade to the fourth grade. The Varsity Club wrote asking for special permission to play L. G. Loveridge in its senior side on Saturday. Loveridge. the letter stated, had played two games under the Taranaki Union and returned to Christchurch on May 9. Mr M’Phail pointed out that the rule specified that a player should be in the district fourteen days before becoming el U il was decided to inform Varsity that the rules left the committee no option.
