DOUBLE BILL AT CIVIC.

A fine double-feature programme Is being presented at the Civic Theatre. “His Woman,” in which Gary Cooper and Claudette Colbert have the leading parts, provides human and tender drama that appeals to picturegoers of all ages, while “Touchdown,” featuring Richard Arlen and Peggy Shannon, has also its touch of drama, plentifully interspersed with thrills and laughs. Gary Cooper, that popular hero of the “strong, silent man ” type, takes the part of Sam Whalan, captain of a tramp steamer, and in it has the outdoors role that suits him. Claudette Colbert. who plays opposite Cooper for the first time in this picture, has the part of Sally Clark, a dance-hall girl. It is a new role for her to act, but she comes through with credit and enhances her growing reputation, already polished by the portrayals in “ Manslaughter ” and “ Secrets of a Secretary.” The story is simple, and centres round a foundling, but it is human all the time.
