REPAIRING DECK CHAIRS.

Deck chairs are very useful in the garden and on the beach, but, like most things, they become shabby if not cared for. Before the winter months are over, deck chairs should be examined and repaired, so that they may be ready when the warm weather arrives. Exairiine the canvas and see whether it has rotted. If it is sound, but dirty, scrub it well, using soap suds and a little ammonia. The woodwork is probably soiled. It can be.wonderfully restored by painting it a bright colour. Let the paint dry-before you start recovering the chairs. To re-cover a deck chair with canvas you should use double the usual length of material. Put it on without nailing exactly as you would a roller towel, sewing it with strong linen thread. It can then be moved along as one part becomes worn or soiled. To give an original touch to an ordinary deck chair, cover the canvas with gaily coloured cretonne, it the old canvas is clean and sound lay it between a fold of cretonne, and machine the selvedges together. Put on in the same way, like a roller towel, and sew the ends over the frame. If the old cover is worn, use new canvas under the cretonne.
