FOR INDIA.

Karapoti and Heremia’s Destination. (Special to the "Star.”) AUCKLAND, March 31. The destination of the racehorses Karapoti and Ileremia, who were recently purchased in Auckland for substantial four-figure prices and were sent to Sydney, has now been disclosed. The horses were bought on behalf of an Indian sportsman, and they are now on their way to India, having been transhipped from Sydney to the Maloja.

For years many Australian racehorses found their way to India, including high-class performers, but of late years English horses have almost monopolised the Indian market. The purchase of Karapoti and Ileremia by Indian owners is important, as it may mean the development of a valuable market for New Zealand breeders. Recent months have seen Phar Lap’s yearling brother bought for Ceylon and several fillies purchased for South Africa, while there were bids on behalf of American owners at the Trentham yearling sales in January. Phar Lap has given New Zealand thoroughbred bloodstock a wonderful world advertisement, confirming the favourable impression created bv its outstanding successes in Australia.
