Though it was made more than' fifteen years ago, a haul of fish at the Chatham Islands, made by Mr Henry Grennell, of Port Levy, when he resided there, has never since been beaten. Mr Grennell landed one ton four and a half hundredweight of blue cdd between 6.45 a.m. ad 1.45 p.m , fishing alone, and with two lines with four hooks on each. Though this might seem like a fish story, there are many who can remember Mr GrennellV record catch. A correspondent who stayed at Hurunui on Monday and Tuesday is enthusiastic about the advantages the river offers the angler. He writes: “Mr M. Malthus, of Amberley, caught thirty-one trout, all fine, big fish, full of fight, and his opinion is that the river is teeming with trout, and is in real good fishing order. He was the first angler who has been fishing at the upper Hurunui bridge. Mr R. Ashworth, on Tuesday afternoon, landed two fine salmon in beautiful condition and weighing over 201 b each.’’
