WORKERS’ EDUCATION.

Arrangements Made for Talks Over Air. A meeting of the district council of the Workers’ Educational Association was held last evening, Mr W. Wood presiding. It was decided officially to open the 1932 session on Saturday next, when Dr J. Hight (Rector of Canterbury College), Mr J. Poison and Dr F. Sinclair will be the speakers. It was resolved that the next summer school be held in the Timaru Boys’ High School during the Christmas holidays. With regard to the conference called by the Industrial Association of Workers, Messrs ft. Schofield, G. Manning and A. Dingwall were appointed delegates to assist in the discussion on the aspects of present social problems. A letter was received from the W.E.A. Broadcasting Committee stating that the Broadcasting Board would allot two nights of the week to the W.E.A. for adult education as an experiment. The council decided that the secretary be instructed to confer with the W.E.A. tutors regarding the drawing up of a programme of lectures. The report of the annual conference was received and adopted.

The secretary reported that eleven tutorial classes would he organised in Christchurch this year, and that eighteen tutorial classes would be arranged throughout Canterbury. This had been made possible by the generosity of the tutors in giving their services gratis.
