Plot Story Denied.
JUR CECIL BISHOP, formerly of the Criminal Investigation Department at Scotland Yard, in his book “ From Information Received,” has told the story of a plot to kidnap the Prince of Wales. The statements made by Mr Bishop have brought sharp denial from Miss Sylvia Pankhurst. In his book, Mr Bishop, who was one of two detectives detailed to guard the Prince when he was an undergraduate at Oxford, described how information w r as received in March, 1914, that militant suffragettes intended to kidnap the Prince on his way to Reading, and hold him until their demand for the vote was granted. The plot failed, it was stated, because a mishap caused the Prince to change his qar. Mr Bishop says that 44 the idea was originated and carried through by what was known as the East End group, led by Miss Sylvia Pankhurst.” Miss Pankhurst said: 44 I deny the story absolutely, as far as I am concerned. I deny it absolutely for the members of the East London suffragette group. I have no knowledge that any such plot was ever formed. . 44 Naturally I cannot speak for all the suffragettes in all parts of the country.”
