STOLEN RINGS FOUND
Accused Man is Now in Paparua. Three rings were stolen at Kaikoura last July, and police inquiries were set in train. The search was successful and, as a result, Alfred Norman O’Mera, a labourer, aged thirtyfour, at present serving a term of reformative detention, appeared before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., this morning. He pleaded guilty to stealing three rings, valued at £3O 10s, the property of Caroline Pluck, of Kaikoura, and was convicted and discharged. Chief-Detective Carroll said that the complainant was the wife of the licensee of the Pier Hotel at Kaikoura. The accused stayed at the hotel last July and at that time the rings disappeared. The rings were traced, one of them being found in the possession of a woman and the other two at a second-hand shop. O’Mera was serving two years’ reformative detention, having been sentenced in July'. The Magistrate said he could not sentence the accused to hard labour as it would interfere with the reformative detention. He convicted and discharged O’Mera and ordered the rings to be returned to the owner.
