Soviet Repudiation.
To the Editor. Dear Sir, —J. Edwards's comments on the rights or wrongs of the Soviet’s repudiation of debts have nothing whatever to do with our previous letter. A Communist correspondent, A.C.E., compared the military establishments of Russia and Britain to the detriment of the latter, and mentioned the huge cost of wars to the British taxpayer. We merely reminded him that at any rate £620,000,000 of that money was spent by Russia and not by Britain, and that the Soviet’s repudiation had compelled Britain to carry the baby. Therefore, the Soviet’s action was partly responsible for the load we have to carry. J. Edwards's advocacy of repudiation is no answer to the illogical reasoning to which we drew attention, and we certainly will not waste time in trying to convince him that it is * dishonest to borrow money to spend on yourself, and then, having spent it and had your “ bust,” to refuse to honour your bond. > —We are, etc., N.Z. WELFARE LEAGUE.
