WHEAT RESEARCH.
Meeting of Institute Committee. The committee of the "Wheat Research Institute met this morning:: present—Dr H. G. Denham (in the chair), Messrs R. J. Lyon, W. S. Pratt, R. K. Ireland, <\ H. Hewlett, A. Jones. J. W. Hadfield, H. G. Cannons, W. W. Mulholland, James Carr, C. E. Boon, F. W. Hawker and P. R. Talbot, Dr F. W. Hilgendorf (director of research) and Mr F. R. Callaghan (secretary). The committee passed a vote of thanks to the board of Canterbury College for ihe use of the board room for its meetings. Word was received that the Lincoln College authorities would be pleased to allow the committee to hold its December meeting at the college, so that members might inspect the work done in the field trials. It was decided to thank Professor R. E. Alexander for the courtesy extended. Dr Denham said that the finances were in a rather better condition, and £2OO would be carried over from the last financial year, as against £lB5 the previous year. Director’s Report. The director reported that the second annual report had been prepared, and was on much the same lines as the first. The first report had been circulated, and in return valuable periodicals had been received from all over the world. Holland and Russia had sent information which would have been unavailable otherwise. In the laboratory the chief work at the beginning of the year was the testing of moisture in wheat for farmers and millers, and the baking of millers' samples for grading and blending purposes. Much useful investigation had been carried out in plant breeding and crossing.
