The view that there were too many surf competitions and that the safety of the beaches was being sacrificed for “ pot-hunting,” was expressed by Mr D. V. Wilson at a meeting of the Canterbury Surf Life Saving Association last evening. He said that the days taken up for competitions should be brought down to two, or otherwise some of them should be thrown over. He thought there should be more club competitions and fewer inter-club events. Mr C. R. Riordan suggested that competitions should be restrietde to one team from each club and that there should be one day for competitions before Christmas for the benefit of the men training for the Christmaa period on the beaches. A sub-commit-tee was set up to consider the question and submit a report.
