CONTENTIOUS PART OF BILL. Arbitration Amendment. MB FORBES'S STATEMENT. (Special to the “ Star.”) WELLINGTON, March 18. A definite indication was given by Mr Forbes this afternoon that the contentious clause No. 2 in the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amednment Bill empowering the exclusion by Order-in-Council of specified industries from the operation of industrial awards or agreements, would be dropped. This decision is not surprising considering the opposition which has been expresse dagainst the principle of the clause, both in political circles and throughout the country. It is believed that it is not unlikely that the Government will also make concessions to objections have been raised to other proposals in the BiH- * A long sitting is in prospect when the committee proceedings on the Bill are continued. Expediting Progress. The debate on the Bill has now proceeded for more than a week of sitting days, and, with a view to expediting progress, Mr Forbes is asking for urgency to 'be accorded. This will undoubtedly mean an all-night sitting for stout Labour opposition is anticipated on at least three clauses. The Government is now armed with the closure weapon, but Mr Forbes declares that he intends to use it only as a last means of facilitating work..
