FOR TEN DAYS.
Mr Forbes Says House will Adjourn. (Special to the “Star.”) WELLINGTON, March 17. Cabinet this morning agreed to a ten days’ adjournment of the House at Easter' to enable full consideration to be given to the reports of the Economic Committee and the National Expenditure Commission with a view to deciding what legislation should be presented to the House on its resumption. In making the announcement, Mr Forbes said that owing to pressure of business and the presentation of the Economy Commission’s report while the House was sitting it had not been possible for Cabinet to thoroughly consider the recommendations and arrange for the preparation of legislation. It had been felt that if the House adjourned to-night week until April 5, Cabinet could devote its undivided attention to the many important proposals under review. Ministers would have the opportunity of spending the Easter vacation at their homes, but all would reassemble in Wellington on Tuesday, March 29, and from that date until the resumption of the House Cabinet would sit continuously, analysing the recommendations and deciding the extent to which they should be given legislative effect. When the House resumed the Government would then be in a position to announce its programme and a start could be made with it immediately. Mr Forbes said that he expected it would be possible for the business session to I>e completed by the end of April. It was not intended to make the session the main one. The present intention was to call the House together again in June.
