GOODS ON FOOTPATHS.

Proceedings Taken Against Shopkeepers. The practice of fruiterers placing fruit and vegetables on the footpath in front of their premises was mentioned by Councillor G. T. Baker at the meeting of the City Council a fortnight ago. lie asked that the by-law dealing with the placing of goods on the footpaths should be strictly enforced. At the meeting of the council last night the Mayor (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) stated that the city by-laws prohibited the placing of goods and chattels on any footpath or street. Proceedings had been instituted on a number of occasions and the persons responsible fined for a breach of the by-laws.
