SIX MONTHS’ GAOL.
Sentence on Man who Stole Doctor’s Instruments.
Recently released from prison, Arthur Patrick M’Guire, 36 years of age, enjoyed his liberty for only a short term. This morning he was convicted at the Magistrate’s Court before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., on two charges of theft and sent back to gaol. The charges against him were that on March 8, 1932, he stole a brief bag and contents valued at £2O, the property of Dr James Carmichael Pairman, and that on the same day he stole two shillings in money, the property of Vera Hamilton. “ Why did you steal the doctor’s surgical instruments?” said the Magistrate. “ Your action might have cost some person his life.” Chief-Detective Carroll said that accused had a fairly long list. He had only been out of prison a short while. M’Guire was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment with hard labour on the first charge, and seven days’ imprisonment with hard labour on the second.
