LAWN TENNIS.

Wools ton and Bromley Play Friendly Match. Last Saturday a tennis match was played on the Bromley court between teams from the Bromley and Woolston Clubs. Woolston won by eleven games to five. Afternoon tea was served by the women of the Bromley Club, and Mr Cowles, of the Woolston Club, thanked the Bromley Club for the enjoyable afternoon. Results were (Woolston names first):— Women’s Singles—Miss M’Gillicuddy lost to Miss W. Dryden, 3-2; Mrs Barber beat Miss L. Purchas, 3-1; Miss E. Adair beat Miss A. M’Ewan, 3-2; Miss M. Cross beat Miss E. Melhuish, 3-2. Men’s Singles—Kirk beat J. Black, 3-2; Rowe beat J. Melhuish, 3-0: Cowles lost to J. Steele, 3-0; V. Marshall beat F. Egan, 3-1. Women’s Doubles—Misses M. Cross and K. Adair lost to Misses E. Melhuish and A. M’Ewan, 4-3; Miss D. M’Gillieuddy and Mrs Barber lost to Misses W. Dryden and L. Purchas, 4-2. Men’s Doubles—Marshall and Cowles beat Egan and Steele, 4-3; S. Kirk and Rowe beat Black and Melhuish, 4-0. Combined Doubles—Miss E. Adair and Marshall lost to Miss A. M’Ewan and Egan, 4-2; Miss M. Cross and Cowles beat Miss E. Melhuish and Steele, 4-1; Mrs Barber and Rowe beat Miss L. Purchas and Melhuish, 4-3: Miss D. M’Gillicuddy and Kirk beat Miss Dryden and Black, 4-3.
