WAR GRAVES.
Maintained in Excellent Condition. VISITORS IMPRESSIONS. IThe excellent condition in which New Zealand war graves are kept in France has greatly impressed Mr W. J. 1. Bardsley, secretary of the Otago Hard bour Board, who is at present in Christchurch on his way to Dunedin - after an absence of ten months abroad. , Mr and Mrs Bardsley spent a good '• deal of time in France, where they i„ visited all the battlefields on which New Zealand troops were prominent, a and were struck with the great care d with which the graves are tended. “ I wish parents and relatives could -• all see for themselves the work that 5 L being done. - ’ said Mr Bardsley this 4’ morning. “ I want all interested 1, persons to feel assured that if they were themselves looking after the ' graves and burial grounds, they could > not do better.” y On the battlefields themselves, Mr Bardsley found few signs of the war. The farmers of France have got their fields into such good shape that there are now few reminders of the war. The villages have been rebuilt, and the s trees which were cut or shelled down L are practically the only evidence that the war took place.
