STREET COLLECTION.
Friday’s Appeal for Aid for the Needy. The sum of £2OOO for the Mayor’s Relief of Distress Fund is the objective of the street appeal, which is to be conducted on Friday next in connection with the All Nations Fair. It is hoped that the citizens of Christchurch will once more respond generously to the call for assistance, and will dip deeply into their pockets to assist a worthy object. No stone will be left unturned to make the appeal a success. Five hundred collectors have volunteered their services for the big drive, including twenty-five members of J. C. Williamson Musical Comedy Co. It is desired that each collector should receive a contribution of not less than Is from each of forty-eight givers, or 6d each from just under one hundred persons. The task sounds easy, but the cooperation of every citizen will be necessary to make the appeal a success. The cheerful giver will have the consolation of knowing that his or her contribution will buy comforts for the city’s needy. Mr S. Jameson, the organiser of the special street appeal, has every confidence that support will be accorded the drive for funds.
