CUTS OPPOSED.
Public Service Arrange for Petitions. LAST NIGHT’S MEETING. Petitions will be circulated by the Avhole of the public service associations urging that there should be no further Avage cuts. This action Avas decided upon last night at a meeting at which there Avere delegates from the Post and Telegraph Officers’ Association, Post and Telegraph Guild, Railway" Officers’ Institute, Amalgamated Society of Railway SerAants, Railway" Tradesmen’s Association, Engine Drivers, Firemen and Cleaners’ Association, Educational Institute and Public Service Association. The meeting was called to enable the Avhole of the public service organisations to discuss the suggested Avage cut and to get the views of delegates on any suggested action. It Avas made clear to-day" by a delegate that the meeting did not discuss a strike, the Avhole of the delegates being in fa\-our of constitutional action. The only branches of the public service not represented Avere the Defence and Police Departments, neither of which is permitted to haAe any organisation take action in these matters.
