TRADES PICNIC.
600 Ashburton People Attend Outing. (Special to the “ Star.”) ASHBURTON. March 13. The annual Ashburton Trades Picnic to Timaru was held on Saturday, Avhen 600 excursionists travelled by the special train. Favourable Aveather prevailed and a pleasant day was spent on Caroline Bay. The number of people Avho took advantage of the outing Avas not so large as last year on account of a number of the business places remaining open. Fanciers’ Society. A meeting of the general committee of the Ashburton Fanciers’ Society Avas held last evening, Mr W. H. Robinson presiding. The following Avill he asked to judge for the Winter Show:—Poultry Messrs G. Bundy and W. H. Robinson; canaries, Mr D. G. Smith; winter show section, potatoes, roots, garden produce, fruit. Mr A. J. Millichamp; grain and seeds, Mr A. A. M’Donald; cookery classes, Miss Ivj- Anderson: needleAvork and fancy Avork. Mrs H. Stringfellow; school competitions. Mr J. Cook: photography, Mr E. Daniel; dressed poultry and eggs. Mr W. H. Robinson; dogs, left t( Messrs G. Bundv and A. J Nieoll to arrange: cats and rabbits, to he arranged. It was agreed to make a reduction in the cookery and needleAvork I entry fees. J
