Varsity Rowing Crew

The Canterbury University College eight-oar crew was chosen yesterday by the selector, Mr F. H. Brown. The crew will compete for the Hebberley Shield at the Inter-university tournament to be held in Wellington at Easter. By the consent of the Students’ Associations of the four universities, rowing is now included in the competition for the tournament shield. The crew will be:—L. L. Hosking (list) bow, D. M. Patterson (lOst 101 b) 2, R. M. Simmers (12st) 3, T. R. Evans (list 71b) 4, H. R. Watts (list 71b) 5, M. Hunter (12st 121 b) 6, S. B. Wallace (12st 31b) 7, H. Waymouth (list 21b) stroke. Waymouth has been a member of the college eight during the past two seasons. The Canterbury Rowing Association has generously lent its eight for the use of the crew. Training will be carried out on the Avon^ Ashburton Cricket. The Ashburton Cricket Association’s competitions were continued on Saturday in fine weather. In the senior grade Fairfield suffered their first defeating Lauriston by an innings and 58 burton B by 94 runs on the first innings. Technical beat Rakaia by 93 runs on the first innings. For Technical F. Grenfell carried his bat for 87. The junior grade was completed, Kia Ora taking the championship by defeating Lauriston by an inning sand 58 runs. In the third grade Technical gained a three-point win over Rakaia.
