CHURCH ASSEMBLY.
Annual Conference Held at Wellington. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 10. The Congregational Assembly met this morning for the first business session. The Rev Harry Johnson presented the secretary’s report, which was very optimistic in tone and was well received. District reports were also presented. In the moderatorial report, Mr Johnson commented on the comparative success of the year in a time of depression. Undoubtedly, the weaker churches had lost ground through economic disturbances but, in the main, the situation could be viewed with hope and satisfaction. Something approaching a breeze arose in the Council over the suggestion that all ministers were sound in the essentials of the old faith. It was felt that no standard of judgment could easily be applied and it was agreed that the passage be deleted.
