WEDDINGS.
Bride Wears Gown of Satin and Lace. RITCHIE—ROBERTS. St Mary’s Church, Addington, was the scene of a wedding yesterday afternoon, the ceremony being performed by Canon W. S. Bean, with Mr Selwyn Baker as organist. The bride was Mabel, youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs H. Roberts, Selwyn Street, and the bridegroom George Trevor, youngest son of Mr and Mrs G. J. Ritchie, Hereford Street, Linwood. Mr Roberts escorted his daughter. Ivory satin was chosen by the bride for her gown, which was made with a flared, ankle-length skirt inset diagonally from a hip yoke, and a slim-fitting bodice inset with lace to match the pointed cuffs of the long sleeves. Her veil was arranged from a lace cap with a trail of orange blossom, and fell to form a short train. She carried a bouquet of white flowers. Misses Maisie Lawson and Meg Grigor were bridesmaids, wearing pretty georgette and lace frocks of pale leaf-green. The bodices wfere cut to a V and the little lace puff sleeves opened to reveal the shoulders. The long skirts had a quaint trimming of scalloped panels edged with rucked ribbon. Velvet sashes were worn, with large bows at the back. Their wide-brimmed drooping hats were of. stitched georgette with tiny flower trimmings. They carried small posies of apricot flowers. Mr Gavin Park was best man and Mr George Ellis groomsman. The reception was held at the Cadena tearoom, where the bride’s mother received the guests. She wore a smart black crepe de chine frock relieved with cream lace, under a corded silk coat. Her hat was of black velvet and satin and she carried a bouquet in autumn tints. The bridegroom’s mother wore a black frock with a lace yoke under a black faconne coat. Her hat was of black sisal straw and she carried a bouquet of red flowers. When Mr and Mrs Ritchie left later the bride was wearing a green patterned marocain frock with 'a* diagonal rever and cuffs of ivoire crepe de chine, with a hat to tone and a fur coat. STOKES—SMITH. The wedding was solemnised last evening at St Faith’s Church, New Brighton, of Kathleen, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs J. R. Smith, Bexley, to William Henry, eldest son of Mr and Mrs C. H. Stokes, Moeraki, late of New Brighton. The Rev T. N. Curnow officiated at the ceremony. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a simple frock of ivory satin, ankle-length. Her tulle veil fell in graceful folds from a dainty lace cap. She carried a shower bouquet. The bridesmaid was Miss Freda Smith (sister of the bride) and the flower girl was Miss Margaret Smith (a niece of the bride). Mr C. L. Stokes, brother of thei bridegroom, was best man. Mr Stokes, who is superintendent of the New Brighton Volunteer Fire Brigade, was attended by his fellow members of the brigade who, in firemen’s uniform, formed a bridal arch with their axes.
A reception was held in the Pier Hall and later Mr and Mrs Stokes motored north. The bride wore a bottle green crepe rosa gown, a green faced-cloth coat and a hat to tone.
