LYTTELTON NEWS.

Local Club has Satisfactory Year. 1 he annual meeting of the Lyttelton held on Monday evening, Mr S. Wales presiding over a good attendance. The secretary, in his annual report stated that the past year, in spite of the depression, had been satisfactory. The weekly billiards tournaments had attracted large entries and competition bad been keen. The annual inter-club billiards and cards match against the Working Men’s Club had been one of the most important functions of the year. Interest had been added by the formation of a cricket club. As a result of the success of the annual ball other dances had been arranged and the club’s finances had benefited. The financial statement revealed a satisfactory position. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mr J. Voyce; vice-presidents, Messrs S. Wales, W. Wales, F. Smith, M. Friedlander and W. W. Toy; secretary, Mr F. Coleman; treasurer, Mr C. M. Madden; assistant treasurer, Mr M. Scott; club captain, Mr W. Cain; vicecaptain, Mr A. Albertson; committee, Messrs E. Muxlow, L. Fenton, R. Shepheard, R. Duckworttf and F. Spencer. Arm Fractured. While playing football in Randolph Terrace on Monday evening, Peter Richardson, aged fifteen, tripped, and, falling beavily, fractured his right arm. Richardson was attended by Dr B. H. Gilmour and later removed to the Christchurch Hospital. New Recreation Ground. At the meeting of the Borough Council on Monday evening the Mayor, Mr F. E. Sutton, suggested that, with a view to making a start on the formation of a new recreation ground on the reclamation at West Lyttelton, he thought that the council’s steam truck could well be employed when not required on other work in transporting clay or soil to cover the area and form a foundation for the formation of a playing area. By doing this it would cost little to complete a good deal of the work. If the suggestion was adopted he thought it would not be necessary to go to the residents with a loan poll until some scheme was formulated. It had been hoped to obtain the deeds of the ground during the present session of Parliament. Bowling. Playing the final round of the Lyttelton Bowling Club’s singles championship, W. H, Dunlop defeated T. Palmer. Personal. Sergeant J. W. M’Holm, of Lower Hutt, who ha 9 been the guest of Mr and Mrs J. Bundy, West Lvttelton, left for the north last evening.
