Strong Canterbury Team Leaves for Auckland.
The Canterbury team for the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Championships at Auckland went north last night. The following members travelled: G. F. Hart, T. G. Broadway, C. G. Gordon, L«„E. Smith, T. O’Brien, A. D. Kane, W. L. Sargison, R. M. Barrer, W. J. Bathstone, J. G. Nelson, S. Campbell, B. F. Anderson, Misses K. Callinan and M. Nelligan. Mr H. Saundercock is manager of the team. The championships will take place on Saturday. Canterbury is represented by one of the strongest teams that has been got together for some years.
SUMNER CLUB
The executive of the Sumner Amateur Athletic Club met on Monday evening. The secretary stated that Mr .J. Browne had donated another Sumner Old Boys Cup for the 100yds handicap race, to replace that won outright last year by G. Murray. The new trophy would be a challenge cup, and could not be won outright. It was reported that the suggested date of the inter-borough contest was April 2, at New Brighton. The programme for the final meeting of the year, to be held on Saturday, at St Leonard’s Square, was arranged as follows:—Senior men: 100yds old boys, 440yds Weastell Cup, long jump and high jump. Junior men: 220yds and shot put. Women: 120yds, hopf step and jump. Schoolboys: 440yds. Schoolgirls: 100yds. For the mixed relay, teams of two will be selected on the ground, each member to run 100 yards.
